Founded in 2004, the National Association of Canoeing Coaches (ANTC) brings together all Canoeing Coaches in Portugal to defend their rights, profession, and role in the sports development of canoeing. It stands out in the development of coaches' knowledge through cooperation with the public and private education systems, technical and higher education, local, regional, national, and governmental bodies. Canoeing is recognized among all other competitive sports, and within the network of professionals working towards national sports development. The existence of organizations defending the rights of professional classes is increasingly important. For coaches, who are required to have initial and continuous training of excellence, fiscal, legal, and social security obligations, as well as commitment to their tasks and the organizations to which they belong, the need to defend their rights, professional and individual condition, and above all, offer opportunities and support in their professional development journey, is inherent. In this context, considering the coach as an essential field agent, it becomes evident the need to create forms of support, defense, and development for them, in favor of the sports development of each discipline.

With a vision of homogenizing the process of action for Canoeing Coaches based on ethical values, sportsmanship, health and well-being, and the long-term general development of the sport's practitioners, and with a strong commitment to social inclusion and sport for all, the ANTC has advocated for the learning competencies of coaches, focusing on promoting social integration. This includes the involvement of the disabled population, creating collaborative work networks between coaches and clubs, the canoeing federation, municipalities, and social solidarity entities that work directly with people with disabilities, in order to create a more inclusive and just society.
